Hello residents of Bishops Brook!
I thought I might write a small birding (and other) wildlife list from around the estate.
You might be surprised with what turns up. Anything particularly good is highlighted in bold.
You may well see me wandering around looking at the stream and hanging around on bridges...
Anyway, without further ado:
8/8/2016
I have been on holiday so havent had chance to see a lot. But luckily Jake (from across the river I guess!) captured a nice image of a Sparrowhawk. I hope he doesnt mind me stealing his picture!

Early morning wander around the estate.
1 Kingfisher (hooray!) at the bridge nearest the main road.
Flew away then circled round and flew back up stream
1 Whitethroat calling but didnt see him
1 Greenfinch on feeders

1 Dipper at the Wand rd bridge.

Cheers for this. Very interesting. Will keep an eye out.
ReplyDeleteI saw the egret a couple of times
How can you tell the difference between a swift and a Martin?
ReplyDeleteI struggle with this.
Cheers
Hi Lee
ReplyDeleteThe Martin has got a white rump and is smaller than a Swift. The Martins around here are House Martins, although you might be lucky and see a Sand Martin (sort of the same but brown rather than black!)
Just saw a baby and mother otter in the Brook
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great sight! I had best keep my camera on me!
DeleteSpotted.
ReplyDeleteKing Fisher today and yesterday.
Idiot woman letting her massive dog run wild and poo all over the Brook.
Anyone know who she is?
Was it the hippyish woman with a husky? Jenny had a word with her, and she agreed to keep her dog away from the stream and the otter.
DeleteWow! You are doing well over there!
ReplyDeleteFinally caught up with the Kingfisher this morning!
ReplyDeleteI think we just had a merlin perch outside our kitchen window (2 Bagot Walk). I've got a couple of poor photos - they're on fbook, but I couldn't find a quick way to send them to you.
ReplyDeleteJake
Wow! I'd love to see them! Given the time of year and a Merlins behaviour it would most likely be a Sparrowhawk. Merlins normally visit during the winter. Sparrowhawks seem to be well adapted to more urban areas. Great bird to see. Especially close up! Love to see the pics.
DeleteHow can I get them to you? Mail me at jakearnott@gmail.com
